How to query VAERS signals

Do not scrape the signals table. Machine clients use GET /signals. No API key.

VAERS reports are voluntary. Counts are reporting, not incidence. Disproportionate reporting is a hypothesis, not evidence of causation. Read n and eb05.

n is the sum of quarterly observed counts. Those windows overlap, so n is not a count of unique reports. Quote n as that sum. n_unique is not in this extract: the signals file has no VAERS report id. eb05 is the peak quarterly EB05, the same number as Peak EB05 in the app. It is the raw quarterly value, not the EWMA. eb05_peak_pre2021 is the highest quarterly EB05 before 2021Q1 on the series. peak_in_covid_era is true for a non-COVID-19 vaccine whose series peak falls in 2021Q1–2022Q4. background_note is one sentence about that distortion. background=no_covid is not served. Each row's vaccine, drug, and vax_name are that product's name. vax_type is the type, so COVID19 stays COVID19.

GET /signals

Flagged (vaccine, event) pairs. vaccine= is the VAERS vaccine name. drug= is the same parameter. JSON array. Empty if nothing matches. 400 without vaccine=, event=, or q=.

Formats

format=csv — download. format=series — quarterly time course. format=profile — compact JSON. format=class — other products of the same vaccine type. format=brief — copyable markdown. It names the filters (min_eb05, min_n) and how many rows they left out.

sort=trend is not supported. This service does not derive a trend, so that value returns 400. Pair rows do not include ebgm, prr, ror, or ic025. prr, ror, and ic are on format=series quarters. There is no ebgm column. eb50 on a quarter is the median.

format=label and format=pdf are not served here. They return 400 with the allowed list.
